Presentations

We are presenting information on creation science to show there is an alternative to the textbook evolution view. Students should judge for themselves which view provides a better explanation for the question of the origin of living things, including ourselves.

Creation Science is the practice of standard science except with the assumption and knowledge that there is a creator God, therefore not all historical events and their effects seen today are best attributed to purely natural processes.

Our school assemblies are normally about one hour long but can be shortened to fit into whatever time is available.

A commonly used outline is:

  • Introduction by school principal or staff member
  • One or more science presentations, such as:
    • Religion is supported by science
    • Design of living things
    • Basic laws of science
    • Flight
    • Gradual formation experiment
    • Dinosaurs
    • Peer pressure
  • Closing
  • Distribution of the Pearls in Paradise book

The following are brief sample overviews of the presentations given during our assemblies. The exact slides used will vary by the presenter and their particular areas of expertise.

It is interesting that the first verse of the Bible is as much a statement of science as it is of religion.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

Five basic aspects of science are described in this one verse:

  • Beginning refers to time.
  • God refers to force.
  • Created refers to energy.
  • Heavens refers to space.
  • Earth refers to mass/matter.

The design of living things defies an evolutionary explanation.

The Pearls in Paradise book contain many examples. Favorites include:

  • Hawaiian Opu Fish (August 23): climbs up the rocks under a tall waterfall, using suction cups, to reach a fresh water source to reproduce.
  • Bee intelligence (November 2): bees have been shown to learn quickly in identifying moving food sources.
  • Marine Loggerhead Turtle (February 6): this turtle uses a built-in compass/GPS system in its long migrations.

Other versions of this talk will focus on the design of living systems, such as the hearing ear.

Or how the blueprint of life is based on the information stored in the DNA. But information always comes from a mind and can never form from a natural process.

The two most basic laws of science support the creation view and not the evolution view.

First Law of Thermodynamics: matter and energy can never be created nor destroyed.

That is, something can never come from nothing, yet evolution postulates that all of the matter of the entire universe emerged from nothing, by itself.

Second Law of Thermodynamics: disorder and decay (entropy) always increases.

That is, everything always mixes, leading to deterioration: houses decay if not taken care of, cars rust, living things die. Yet evolution postulates that the random energy of the Big Bang, over billions of years, organized itself, by itself, into ever-increasing complexity, eventually forming the most complex object known, the human brain.

Therefore, the process of evolution is exactly opposite to the most basic and proven laws of science.

The origin of the airplane/flight was modeled after birds.

Without a bird’s wing design we would still be earthbound. The story of the Wright Brothers is recounted.

The naturalistic gradual formation of a complex whole is unscientific.

Evolution is said to bring individual components together to form ever-increasingly complex whole system. The “magic can of evolution” experiment is used to show how even a small-scale system consisting of just a few parts (a ballpoint pen) could never form itself.

The highly interesting and popular topic of dinosaurs is used to show design, but more importantly, is used to introduce the idea that their extinction is best explained by the global flood which occurred about 5,000 years ago. The global flood is an important concept of creation science. Key evidence includes:
  • Fossilization requires rapid burial. Mass fossilization requires a massive (continent wide) water burial, which the flood provided.
  • Dinosaur fossils can contain soft tissue, which could not possibly have survived for 65 million years (the supposed age of the dinosaur extinction).
  • Polystrate (multiple rock layer) fossils and soft bending of rock layers show that rock strata must have formed quickly and do not represent millions of years.
  • There are many historical depictions of dinosaurs, showing that they lived at the same time as man, in recent history.

Peer pressure is a main explanation for the continued acceptance of evolution despite its many flaws.

It can be hard for students to understand why the idea of evolution is so widely accepted, and is being taught in their textbooks, if the evidence presented clearly points to creation by God. An interesting video on “peer pressure” is shown, which illustrates how easily people will go along with something just because everyone else does. Students are encouraged to think for themselves.
